On holidays, an outdoor market will also be set up to sell rural items. It is expected to start operation in 2022 and attract 350,000 passengers in the first year.

The Development Bureau announced yesterday (5th) the results of Phase 5 of the Revitalization of Historic Buildings Partnership Project. Luen Wo Market was awarded by the Lutheran Social Service. In order to preserve the characteristics of the old market, in addition to retaining the facade, most of the partitions will also be retained. Natural ventilation and natural light will be introduced, and green roofs and water features will also be added.

Deng Jinbiao, Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service, said that they will cooperate with local vegetable farmers from reputable farms to build Lianhe Market into a half-area distribution center for the goods market. It is initially planned that there will be 5 local vegetable stalls that will exempt farmers from renting. Buy their crops at half of the market price to ensure their stable income; in addition, more than a dozen small shops in the urban area will only charge 30% to 50% of the market value in rent, and there will be an additional 20% discount for the first year. Special restaurants will also be opened in the market to cook local farm ingredients.

In addition to retaining the facade of Lianhe Market, most of the partitions will also be retained. The exhibits of old objects brought back many memories of the citizens. The Hong Kong Lutheran Church will cooperate with local vegetable farmers to build the Luen Wo Market into a half-area distribution center for the goods market.

The 67-year-old Fanling Luen Wo Market will be revitalized into an urban and rural life museum, with about 20 stalls selling local agricultural products and small community shops, including traditional crafts and snack bars such as Gudong wooden crafts and sharpening knives and scissors, recreating the functions of the old market.
